Rain, Rainbows, and Romance: Melissa & Stephen’s Amsterdam Engagement

Sometimes, the weather has its own plans, and that’s exactly what happened during Melissa and Stephen’s engagement session. We started with 90 dreamy minutes on a boat, exploring Amsterdam’s canals, but then the rain joined in and cut our session short.

I didn’t want them to miss out on the full experience, so we planned to meet the next day for a quick 30-minute session on land to complete their 2 hours before leaving Amsterdam. And let me tell you—it was so worth it! The rain had just stopped, the clouds were still heavy, and out of nowhere, a rainbow appeared. Talk about a magical moment!

This time, I took them to Oude Waal, one of my favorite spots. It’s quieter, with beautiful brick walls and a historic tower in the background. They strolled hand-in-hand through the streets, and we managed to capture such intimate and romantic moments. We were still watching the sky, half-expecting the rain to come back, but it only added to the cozy vibe.

Having both water and land in their session made their story feel complete. The boat brought the classic Amsterdam canal vibe, and the streets gave us those timeless, grounded shots. It felt like the perfect mix of adventure and romance—exactly what an engagement session should be.

If you’re planning a session in Amsterdam, I can’t recommend combining both sides of the city enough. It’s an experience you’ll never forget, rain or shine!
