Joanna Pantigoso Vacation Photographer based in Amsterdam

discover all what you can do within your photographic experience in the most beautiful gardens in The Netherlands

Welcome to The Netherlands! Let's photograph with tulips!
Booking 2025 is open

The Tulip Region (De Bollenstreek) is located in the province of South Holland, and travel time from Amsterdam is only around 40 minutes to 1 hour. The region is not well connected by trains, so we need to take buses, which makes the trip a bit longer and sometimes confusing. In this guide, you will have all the necessary information to make your trip as easy as possible, from transportation to the gardens you can visit with me or on your own to the options for creating your photographic experience within the region.

If you don't find something, please feel free to send me a message, and I will help you make this dream of being surrounded by tulips a reality.

Private Tulip Field. April 2024.

What is the Tulip Region? and why is it important for The Netherlands?

The Tulip Region, also known as the "Bollenstreek," is a colorful slice of beauty in The Netherlands. It's famous for its stunning tulip fields that burst into a vibrant kaleidoscope of colors during Spring. These blooming fields are not just a visual treat but hold significant economic importance for the country. The tulip industry is a major player in Dutch agriculture and tourism. The export of tulip bulbs contributes significantly to The Netherlands' economy, making it a symbol of Dutch culture worldwide. So, beyond its picturesque charm, the Tulip Region is a vital part of the Netherlands' identity and economic landscape. But as beautiful as they are, we need to have in mind that stepping in those fields can endanger the final product which are the bulbs.

This is the reason why some farmers started to open Gardens in the region. Gardens are areas that you can enter, walk between tulips, get closer, taking pictures, and even pick up some tulips for an entry fee.

Keukenhof is the most known tulip garden, but there are others besides this one. Keukenhof is the most extensive garden in Europe, and you will need at least 3 hours to visit it.

Also, it is essential to know this is not the only area with tulips in The Netherlands, but it is the closest one and with the easiest access to public transport. This accessibility makes it a convenient and feasible destination for your visit. During the season that starts March 20th, 2025, we will be exploring other areas as well, ensuring you get the most comprehensive tulip experience.

Keukenhof, April 2024

Step 1: How to get there?

The easiest way from Amsterdam is to use the train from your location to Schiphol Airport. Then, you can hop on a direct Arriva bus from Schiphol Airport to Keukenhof. The bus ride is around 40 minutes and runs frequently during the tulip season. If you plan to go to Keukenhof, you can always purchase a Combi ticket that guarantees your return ticket from Keukenhof and the garden entrance. This bus ticket is purchased through the Keukenhof website, www.keukenhof.nl. Even if you want to visit the region but not Keukenhof, purchasing a bus ticket through this website is the fastest and most reliable way. Also, it guarantees that you arrive as early as possible, which is something you cannot do hiring the tourist options.

Another option is to take a train to Hillegom and cycle from there. If you already have a day rental bike in Amsterdam, you can opt for this. Only consider that you will need a ticket to take the bike on the train, and the bike will not enter Keukenhof, but you will get there looking at all the beautiful fields on the way and then use it to explore the complete region. We will give you a link to a full exploration of Google Maps if you are doing The Explorer or Lifestyle Route with us. You can also rent a bike at Hillegom station and start exploring the region immediately. The first tulip garden is within 7 minutes of cycling from it.

This is my preferred way to travel, and it's the method I'll be using this year. I'd be delighted if you'd join me for a cycle to your chosen tulip garden. If you're looking for a customized experience for one or two people, feel free to send me a direct message.

Tulip Experience Amsterdam. April 2024

Step 2: Which options are possible in the Tulip Gardens?

To simplify the booking process, we offer the same options we do in Amsterdam, with an added travel fee that includes my transportation, my entrances if needed, and time to get there and in between gardens. This means even if you choose two gardens, the time we cycle in between is not counted.

And we say tulip gardens, not tulip fields, as we will only enter gardens that allow access to the public for a fee. This means we can freely walk in there after paying for the entrance. If you'd like to go to private tulip fields, please don't hesitate to reach out before March. We know farmers who allow entrance, and we can book time in their fields. Please remember they only allow a maximum of two persons per booking. Ask us directly for the options available.

Now, there is not only one garden, Keukenhof, but several in the region that allow entry, so you can custom-tailor your experience depending on the time you have and how many gardens you would want to visit.

All options cover the photographer's fees (Travel fee) but not your own, so please remember to book your time slot in advance for Keukenhof and the bus from Schiphol airport. A detailed guide for transport choices will be sent in the Tulip Region Guide. But if you have more questions about it, just ask..

Here you have a comprehensive guide to our offerings:

Keukenhof Gardens, April 2023

Keukenhof Gardens

This garden is truly breathtaking, but it can get very crowded. For the best experience, I recommend scheduling your photoshoot at 8 AM or 5 PM when it's quieter. While we can photograph at other times, patience is key, which is why I suggest booking at least 60 minutes here.

This is the perfect choice if someone in your group has reduced mobility or if your time in the region is limited.

A travel fee is added to cover my entrance and transportation. However, this fee is included for sessions of 90 minutes or more (Urban Storybook package).

Keukenhof Gardens. April 2024

Tulip Gardens in the region

You’ll receive a Tulip Region Guide with names and addresses of all the open tulip gardens. During our session, you can choose which ones to visit, and I’ll recommend the closest options to make the most of your time. You’re also free to explore the rest on your own.

Want to visit multiple gardens? You can extend your session to fit more stops. This option is great if you’re renting a bike to cycle through the region or traveling by car.

Each garden requires a minimum stay of 30–45 minutes, and we can plan a custom route to explore as many as you'd like. A travel fee is added to cover my entrance and transportation, but this is included for sessions of 90 minutes or more (Urban Storybook package).

The Tulip Barn, May 2021

Tulip Fields with entrance fee

In 2025, select tulip fields will open to visitors with a paid entrance. If you're interested, please inquire before March as timeslots fill up quickly.

Each visit allows a maximum of 40 minutes inside the fields. You can also combine this experience with other gardens or Keukenhof.

Since tulip fields have set time slots, please include your preferred date and whether you’d like a morning or afternoon session when inquiring. Once your session is confirmed, we will book your spot immediately. Please note that in this case, the date and time cannot be changed on the fields booking.

A €15 per person entrance fee is required to reserve your space in the tulip fields. This fee, along with the travel fee, will be invoiced one week before your session.

Step 3: Which are the Photography Packages available?

The Travel Fee only includes my entry to the different gardens and my transport from Amsterdam to the Tulip Region. I will have a bike to transport me within the region. Be aware you need to pay your entry fee to the gardens separately, but unless it is a weekend, don't purchase it before booking your photographer, as we can recommend you the best way to reach the region.

Tulip Fields vs Tulip Gardens

On all options above, we will be going to Tulip Gardens. The gardens are locations created by the farmers of the Tulip Region for us to be able to walk and photograph for a small entrance fee. Our shoes bring bacteria to the fields, which means, to not affect the local production, it is needed to remain two meters outside the production field. Your entrance fees are not included in the pricing, and the amount depends on the garden we will visit. If you want us to take care of your entrances, let us know, and we will add them to the transport fee invoice. You will receive a Tulip Region Guide with opening dates and pricing per garden.

On Selected Dates, we will have access to Tulip Fields. This implies permission to photograph from the farmer for a limited time and number of persons. Fields charge an extra fee to be able to hire a person to open its doors to the public and keep the area for paid visitors. Visiting a tulip farm is not possible every day, and farmers announce dates from January 2025. If you are interested in moving your session to a tulip field, let us know in the comments of your booking. We cannot guarantee it will be possible, but we can confirm if we see availability when answering your request.

Frequently Asked Questions

They're mainly located in the surrounding areas, like Lisse, about a 40-minute drive from Amsterdam., which is an average of 1 hour using public transportation. The area is connected by bus from Schiphol Airport, with buses running every 30 minutes during the tulip season.

.

Yes, for sessions starting in 90 minutes, we will be doing clips with the DJI Osmo Pocket. You will receive the unedited clips without audio so that you can edit your final video.

No. drone usage is restricted in the area and we will not use it.

No, even though the recommended bicycle rental is located in Keukenhof, the garden is pedestrian. So, if you have opted for the option, we will be cycling outside Keukenhof.

Keukenhof has a no-entry policy, so if we leave after 30 minutes, you cannot go back and enjoy the largest garden in Europe. usually, a visit to Keukenhof takes 2 hours, and to make your experience the best possible we will be walking with you after the first hour of pictures is finished. So, there is no rush to go to the next garden fast. This option is only available from The Explorer (3 hours), as we have booked the full morning for you.

Yes, from 2025, you can book from 30 minutes in the region, but from experience, you will need a minimum of 60 minutes for the best experience.

Only if you would like a private field as renting the place for us only has a fee. But if we go to one of the recommended gardens, it is only the standard entry fee. There is no extra fee for planning the engagement proposal, as every photo session requires planning. The travel fee cannot be voided though.

  • Photographer transport from Amsterdam to Keukenhof or to the tulip garden of preference, and return.
  • Photographer's entry fee to the garden of preference
  • Cycling time between tulip farms if needed
  • Time & preparation for the photo session

It does not include your transfer, your tickets, or your bicycle rental.

Yes, you can do it up to 2 days in advance for any dates open during the same season. The scheduling system allows you 215 days ahead, but remember that Tulip season ends on the first week of May. If you prefer a date outside of the Tulip Season, the payments and booking will be towards an Amsterdam photo session with the same length and offerings.

Cancellation is possible up to 30 days in advance for a partial refund. We retain only €50 for the Amsterdam guide already sent or the rental amount for a tulip field if requested as an additional service. You will always receive an email with this information to the one you must reply as formal confirmation and acceptance.

According to our payment merchant, the refund timeline is 5-10 business days (Monday to Friday) after receiving the request. We request it in no more than two business days (Monday to Friday) from receiving your email confirmation. After sending the refund request to the merchant, the date is reopened.

Rescheduling for next season is an option. We keep the current year's price and offerings, and you set a date for the next year. If you prefer this, we must continue the payments as your session is in the current year (original schedule and invoicing). You have then up to two years to set your new date. No cancellation is possible after this decision, as the payment acts as a guarantee for the next two years that a session will happen with the pricing of 2024. You will receive the Amsterdam guide updates within two years or until the date of the session.
