Birthdays are always special, but there’s something magical about celebrating a little one’s milestones—especially when they turn two! Recently, I had the joy of photographing a jungle-themed birthday party for a sweet two-year-old boy at his home.

The day started with a Dutch tradition: introducing the birthday boy to his very first bike! In the Netherlands, getting a bike at two years old is almost like a rite of passage. It reminded me of when we gifted our nephews their bikes at the same age—it’s such a beautiful moment to witness their excitement and curiosity.

The party itself was perfect. The weather surprised us with a gorgeous sunny day, making the outdoor setup just as inviting as the cozy indoor area. The jungle theme was everywhere, from the vibrant decorations to the adorable cake. The little birthday boy enjoyed every moment, from playing with his bike to running around with friends and family.

For the session, my focus was on telling the story of the day. I captured candid moments of guests interacting and celebrating, making sure to stay in the background so everyone could enjoy themselves. Of course, we also took a few posed pictures with the stunning jungle-themed setup and made sure to highlight the little one’s joy throughout the party.

What I love about birthday sessions like this is how they freeze these fleeting, joy-filled moments in time. Two years old is such a fun age, full of curiosity and wonder. These photos will not only be a memory for the family but a way for the birthday boy to look back one day and see how much love surrounded him on his special day.
