Hello Amsterdam lovers! It's cherry blossom time! Cherry blossoms are usually linked to Japan, but what if I tell you we have plenty of them in the Netherlands? Even Euronews Travel has put Amsterdam at the top of their list of the best places to see cherry blossoms in Europe.
So, where are the locations, and how can you take advantage of your visit?
1) Kersenbloesempark (Cherry Blossom Park), Amstelveen: This park is one of the prime spots in The Netherlands to admire cherry blossoms. Located in Amstelveen, just a short distance from Amsterdam, Kersenbloesempark features hundreds of cherry trees in full bloom during spring, creating a picturesque setting for visitors to enjoy. Easier to reach by bike, but at a short walking distance from parking or public transport. It gets very crowded and for pictures we need to reach the park at sunrise.
2) Westerpark: There are only a few trees in two sections of the park, but it's conveniently located very close to public transport. You can go at any moment; it usually doesn't get too crowded, so it is possible to create portraits anytime.
3) Hortus Botanicus, Leiden: It hosts a collection of cherry blossom trees that bloom in spring. Visitors can stroll through the garden's tranquil pathways and discover the diverse flora, including the enchanting cherry blossoms. As it is a closed area, there is an entrance fee, but we can take pictures inside, observing the rules of staying on the paths and not disturbing other visitors.
4) Almere is home to a charming cherry blossom avenue. Rows of cherry trees line the streets and create a stunning canopy of pink and white blossoms during springtime. It's a popular spot for locals and visitors, so it is recommended to arrive early. This is a perfect place to add your bike to the picture.
5) Keukenhof Gardens, Lisse: Although famous for its tulip fields, Keukenhof Gardens in Lisse also has plenty of cherry blossom trees that bloom alongside the vibrant displays of spring flowers. This garden will open this Thursday. Keukenhof has an entrance fee, and you can take a direct bus from Schiphol Airport.
Extra place: Let me add Zaandam; even though it is in an area full of buildings, we found a very nice set of trees that we explored for some pictures.
The season usually lasts until the first week of April, but the warmer weather has made the trees bloom faster this year. Do take some time to visit one of these fantastic locations as soon as you can. Photo session dates for Cherry Blossom are available from March 19th to March 31st at their different locations.
Keep chasing those magical moments, and remember, the best stories are the ones we capture with heart 📷.
