How to capture authentic Newborn Moments at home

As new parents, you want to freeze those precious early moments with your newborn. But finding the right photographer who understands your desire for a relaxed and natural session can be challenging.

That's why I'm here to help to achieve your dream newborn photography session at home, capturing authentic moments that reflect your family's unique story.

As a documentary-style photographer, I specialize in capturing the raw beauty of your everyday life with your newborn, how the dynamics have changed, and the duties of the new parents. A newborn documentary is not a short session; there is no need to do it within the first ten days as a posed newborn session, allowing you more freedom and being more rested before the session.

Another difference from traditional newborn photographers is that I am not taking props. Everything the baby will be sleeping, or toys we will use are their own, which makes memories stronger and genuine for the new family.

Day-in-the-life photography allows for a genuine narrative of your family's everyday moments. By the end, you'll have a collection of photographs that encapsulates the essence of your new family dynamic, creating lasting memories for years to come.

  • How long is a newborn documentary session?

We need 4 hours to have a complete documentary. During this time, we photograph the room, the toys, changing diapers, making the bottle, breastfeeding, making the baby sleep, and also some portraits of the baby and the new parents with the baby.

  • How far in advance should it be booked?

Sessions are made between 10:30 am-02:30 pm, so only one session a day is possible. Sessions can be booked only two months before and within the first 30 days of the baby's birth. Remember that portraits of the baby in bed will not be posed, and they will follow the baby's natural sleeping.

  • What's in the Newborn Documentary Package?

  • My baby has more than four weeks. Is it too late to make a session?

Not at all, as it is a documentary session. We can do it at any moment. It will not be a newborn session but a Day in a Life session for your family. My recommended goals for photographing a baby's life are:

Four months: the baby will support their head with their arms.

Eight months: the baby is sitting by themselves.

12-13 months: first steps

The beauty of photography is that the 4 Moments will collect the memories within The First Year Book that is added to your collection without any cost as soon as the four sessions are completed.

Until next time in Amsterdam,

Joanna, your Amsterdam photographer
