After picking up our tulips on National Tulip Day, we made our way toward Amsterdam Central Station to catch the boat for the Amsterdam Light Festival. But on the way, we paused at Torensluis. This was a quick break that turned into the perfect impromptu tulip photo session!

With tulips in hand and a charming Amsterdam backdrop, we only had about 15 minutes before continuing our walk. It was one of those moments where you don’t plan a shoot, but everything just falls into place: beautiful lighting, fresh flowers, and an iconic location.

It was also a fun mix of seasons: seeing a Christmas tree and tulips in the same frame felt so unusual, but that’s what makes Amsterdam special! While tulips are usually a spring thing, the ones from National Tulip Day are greenhouse-grown, giving us the chance to enjoy them much earlier in the year.

Now, if you want to include a bunch of tulips in your photo session in Amsterdam, simply tie them together with a rubber band to keep them in place. You can then add a decorative cord or ribbon for an elegant touch.

Keep in mind that stores often wrap tulips in paper or plastic, which doesn’t always look great in photos. For this quick session, we didn’t have time to style them perfectly, especially since tulips from National Tulip Day come with their bulbs attached, making them appear larger than they actually are.

Sometimes the best shots happen in the most unexpected moments, which is something I love about photography! Who else loves spontaneous photo sessions?
